In the Google Maps app, you can find posts about nearby places shared by others. While browsing through some recent posts, I stumbled upon a bakery with a familiar name: Kakiang Bakery.
I visited Kakiang Bakery a long time ago during a trip to Ubud. Since Ubud is quite far for me, that was my only visit.
Now that I can enjoy their breads at ‘Kakiang Bakery Denpasar’, that’s really great news!
I’m already excited to taste the delicious bread and various desserts from Kakiang Bakery again.
Kakiang means “grandfather” in Balinese.
Interestingly, the word “grandfather” seems to convey a warm and loving feeling, no matter the language. It truly feels like a magical word that bring forth comfort and affection.
Grandfather. My grandfather was a kind and loving man who would often sit me next to him and draw pictures of animals. He would also prepare my favorite snacks and bring them out until I had enough of them.
Jl. Diponegoro, where ‘Kakiang Bakery Denpasar’ is located, might be a bit unfamiliar to those new to Bali. Nearby, you’ll find Level 21 shopping mall, Saint Joseph School, and Apotek & Klinik Kimia Farma pharmacy. While these places aren’t typical tourist attractions, they’re well-known among locals—just mentioning their names would be enough for anyone in the area to recognize them.
‘Kakiang Bakery Denpasar’ is located near a major intersection on Jl. Diponegoro, and you can easily find it by looking for a sign with a red background and a large “K.” Just keep in mind that this road is one-way, so if you miss it, it can take a while to circle back. Fortunately, I turned on my left turn signal and slowed down about 200 meters before arriving, which made it easy to find.
At first glance, this three-story building may look a bit small at the entrance, but it’s Kakiang Bakery.
The cream-colored exterior, red awning, and arched wooden windows give it a classic bakery charm.
Although it’s not shown in the photo, when I looked up, a staff member from the third floor noticed and greeted us with a warm smile.
In front of the building, there’s a parking space for one car, located in front of the empty adjacent building. Since that building is currently unoccupied, the parking space is available for use. However, if you plan to drive your car, you might need to find paid parking outside, as the situation could change.
For this reason, currently, Kakiang Bakery Denpasar offers a discount of 6,000 rupiah off the total bill for dine-in customers who park outside and spend over 100,000 rupiah.
Just so you know, if you park in front of a nearby shop with a parking guy, the fee is around 5,000 rupiah per visit (though it may vary). If you choose to park at the Level 21 mall’s parking lot, there will be an hourly charge.
As I entered the bakery, I could see a showcase filled with that day’s freshly baked breads and cakes.
When you search for Kakiang Bakery online, you’ll find the phrase “Japanese Style Pastry & Bakery.” Perhaps that’s why some menu items have Japanese names like “Bento” and “Harajuku.”
The cakes on display are a bit small, around 10 to 15 cm, but for someone like me in a one-person household and doesn’t like big parties, they seem quite practical.

While waiting for my drink, I explored the second floor.
Since it was still early, there weren’t many customers. The second floor is separated by glass doors, there is the indoor space and the outdoor area.
When I stepped out into the outdoor area and looked down, I could see the Jl. Dipenogoro road in front of the bakery and the exit to Level 21 shopping mall on the left.
Unless you stand up to peek outside, the walls makes a cozy atmosphere here. Plus, being on the second floor is not too noisy.
The third floor is for staff-only, so customers aren’t allowed up there.
Each table here has an ordering machine, so we can call the staff even from a distance.
They have high chairs for kids. Just ask for one.
As I walked past the showcase, I started to place my order. I got one each of the Sausage, Chicken Bacon & Corn, and Abon Ayam breads. Then, I decided to try the Tiramisu Mille Crepes, which the staff recommended as their signature dish, along with a Hot Ginger Tea for myself and a Pineapple Juice for my friend.
If you’d like your bread warmed up, just let the staff know when you order.
My friend and I walked past the drink preparation counter and chose a spacious spot against the wall with a sofa.
Once we settled in, a staff member brought us the menu, which featured a variety of drinks and meals in addition to the breads on display.
First, there was a selection of drinks like coffee, fruit juices, and mocktails, with prices ranging from 25,000 to 42,000 rupiah. There was a slight price difference between hot and iced beverages, with iced drinks being a bit pricier.
For the main dishes, which included pizza, pasta, and Indonesian options, prices ranged from 42,000 to 68,000 rupiah. Desserts like breads and slice cakes were priced between 20,000 and 47,000 rupiah.
There was also a kids’ menu. The kids’ meals 1, 2, and 3 are all priced at 40,000 rupiah, and they include a choice between a sandwich or Nasi Goreng (fried rice), along with French fries and ice cream. If I were a kid, I would definitely have chosen the egg sandwich!
At the back of the menu, there were packages for Bridal Showers and birthday parties, categorized for groups of 4, 6, and 8. Each package includes two types of pizza, French fries, a small cake from the showcase, and iced tea, along with various decorations and crowns. Celebrating with friends here could be a unique experience!
That day, it was a quiet time with no customers, and the staff were busy blowing up blue balloons, seemingly preparing for an upcoming party.
Finally, all the dishes I ordered arrived.
The moment I took a bite of the Tiramisu Mille Crepes, I understood why the staff recommended it without hesitation.
The Tiramisu Mille Crepes was truly delicious.
As I bit into the layers of moist crepes, the rich aroma of coffee spread in my mouth. The fresh cream provided a silky taste at the end, allowing each layer of crepes to blend together.
Most importantly, it wasn’t overly sweet, making it easy to enjoy. Each bite left a deep, savory aftertaste that made me want to come back for more.
Next, I poured myself a cup of warm ginger tea.
I had ordered it on a whim, without much thought, but it turned out to pair wonderfully with the Tiramisu Mille Crepes.
The warm, slightly spicy flavor of the ginger tea enhanced the sweetness of the Tiramisu.
Since I was full and couldn’t finish the breads, I asked the staff to pack them up for me. Later at home, I tried them, and they were all fantastic.
Starting at 4 p.m., just like I saw on the Google Maps app, more customers started to arrive.
You can check out the menu for Kakiang Bakery Denpasar at Kakiang Denpasar Menu (Click). The website also provides information about other branches and their menus, which is great to check out before your visit.
Now that I know where Kakiang Bakery is, I’ll be coming here often for the Tiramisu Mille Crepes. If I visit next time, it would be nice to come during meal hours and try some of the savory dishes on the menu as well.
