Trying a New Hair Salon.
Eat, Drink, and Talk

Jepun Ayu Denpasar

There’s a hair salon in Denpasar I’ve been interested in for a while, and after getting a recommendation, I finally decided to visit Jepun Ayu Salon.
It’s a small change, but a big one for me.
I visited The Shampoo Lounge not long ago, and everything there is great. The only downside is that it is so popular that getting a reservation is difficult, which can be frustrating for someone as impatient as I am. (of course, the results have always been the best.)
From my experience, hair salons in Bali tend to deliver better results as prices go up.
Jepun Ayu seemed to be in a similar price range to The Shampoo Lounge, so I decided to visit Jepun Ayu this time.
Today, I am getting a smoothing treatment.
After washing my hair, I returned to my seat and found Pop Mie, rice crackers, jellies, coffee, tea, and mineral water prepared for me.
Everything was complimentary, and I’m pretty sure their plan was just to feed me well and keep me in a good mood while I got my hair done.
They served Pristine water, and somehow, being offered a more premium bottled water made the salon feel more polished overall.
I chatted with my stylist the entire time my hair was being done.
The topic was “cari muka”.
Cari muka is an Indonesian expression that refers to deliberately putting oneself forward to look good in front of others, often by acting in an exaggerated way to attract attention.
It feels like there is only a thin line between confidence and being a nuisance.
Snacking on crackers, eating jellies, and drinking two cups of coffee while talking about ”cari muka”, I barely noticed when my hair was finished.
Now all that is left to do is survive the next three days without washing my hair.
